2022 Cavalier Volleyball Coaching Staff
Candice Collins Gibson – Head Coach
Coach Collins Gibson played and graduated from Amarillo High School, home of the Amarillo Sandies! While at AHS she was captain of the varsity team and was a 1st team all-district selection along with various all-tournament awards. Coach Collins Gibson played club volleyball for Amarillo Jo's from 6th - 12th grade. As a club player she was selected to the Sun Country All-Region team.
After high school Coach Collins Gibson played collegiate volleyball at Sam Houston State University. While at SHSU she was a 2 time captain, team MVP in 1999, holds the 4th all-time career leading assists record at SHSU, and was named to various all-tournament teams. She was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, The Dean's List and The National Dean's List. After her volleyball career she was a graduate assistant for the Volleyball and the Strength & Conditioning Programs at SHSU.
Coach Collins Gibson graduated from SHSU with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a double minor in General Business and Secondary Education. She started her teaching/coaching career at Montgomery High School where she was the varsity volleyball coach and started the women's soccer program.
She has coached high school volleyball for 19 years and club volleyball for 16 years. She coached for Texas Tornados for 3 years, Woodlands Stars for 2 years, Texas Team Volleyball for 2 years, Xtreme Volleyball Club for 4 years and Houston Juniors for 1 year. She is currently coaching at Revolution Volleyball Club. While at the Woodlands Stars her 12 Gold team placed 3rd, earning a bronze medal at the 2007 USA Junior Olympic Volleyball National Championships. In 2011 her Xtreme 13 Black team placed 2nd , earning a silver medal at the 2011 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships.
During the 2007 season the Cavalier Varsity Volleyball Team battled for their first State Playoff berth in College Park Volleyball history! They finished the season District 15-5A Co-Runner Up, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions and Region II-5A Area Finalist. Earning an overall record of 21-15, and district record of 6-4.
The 2008 season proved to be just as exciting! The Cavalier Varsity Volleyball Team earned their first ever state and national ranking; highest rank 11, and 88 respectively. They also earned their first district championship, finishing the season 14-5A Co-District Champions, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions, and Region II-5A Area Finalist. Earning an overall record of 32-7, and a district record of 9-1. Coach Collins was named District 14-5A Co-Coach of the Year.
College Park Volleyball won their first sole District Championship in 2009. The Cavalier Varsity team broke into the top 10 state ranked teams for the first time ever at #6. The team also earned a Prep Volleyball National ranking of # 56. Earning the titles District 14-5A Champions, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions, Area Champions and Regional Quarter-finalist. Earning an overall record of 34-9, and a perfect district record of 10-0. Coach Collins was named District 14-5A Coach of the Year.
In 2010 College Park Volleyball was District 14-5A Runner Up, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions, Area Champions and Regional Quarter-finalist. Earning an overall record of 23-18 and a district record of 9-3. They also earned a highest state ranking and Prep Volleyball National ranking at #7 and 74, respectively.
In 2011 College Park Volleyball earned Undefeated District Champions Title, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions, Area Champions and Regional Quarter-finalist. Earning an overall record of 35-5 and a perfect district record of 12-0. They earned a highest Texas State ranking, Houston Area ranking and Prep Volleyball National ranking at #1, #1 and #16, respectively.
Coach Collins was named Montgomery County Coach of the Year.
In 2012, the Cavaliers battled for 3rd place in district 14-5A and finished the season as Bi-district finalists. The 2012 season marked the 6th consecutive year of playoff appearances for the Cavaliers.
2013 proved to be another successful season for the Cavaliers. Earning District 14-5A Runner Up, Region II-5A Bi-District Champions and Area Finalist. It was the programs' 7th consecutive year to earn a playoff appearance. The Cavaliers finished their season 23-10, 9-3.
In 2014, the Cavaliers held a state ranking in the top 25 all season. Led by 7 seniors we placed 3rd in a strong District 16-6A. The team earned Region II-6A Bi-District Champions and Region II-6A Area Finalist titles. Varsity finished the season with a record of 28-11, 9-3.
The Cavaliers 2015 season was a great success. The very young team came together with our strong senior leaders and and worked hard to achieve their goals. They made the top 25 Texas ranking poll and finished the season as District 16-6A Runner Up, Region II-6A Bi-District Champions and Region II-6A Area Finalist. Finishing the season with a record 26-11, 9-3. The team earned the program their 9th consecutive playoff appearance.
Coach Collins Gibson is married to Mike Gibson. Mike is the head men's CC and track coach at College Park. Together they share two boys, Miles and Camden, and two dogs, Doug and Louie. Coach Collins Gibson is proud to be the first ever volleyball coach at College Park High School and is looking to continue building a strong tradition of volleyball for the Cavaliers!
